The said meeting discussed five agendas: the Philippines-UAE 50 Years Bilateral Ties Celebration, a meeting with Community Development Authority (CDA) officials, the Filipino Groups Accreditation Updates, the 126^th Philippine Independence Day 2024 Celebration, and Filipino Community Events and Activities, spearheaded by the club.

“Leaders, as we move forward, I kindly request your full support for FilSoc, and encourage you to become ambassadors of our club. Your role includes advocating for our values, participating in events, and spreading awareness about unity,” said Ms. Ellanie Villena, Vice President of the Filipino Social Club, during her welcome address as she emphasized the importance of solidarity and community engagement in uplifting the Filipino community.

The meeting included His Excellency Alfonso Ferdinand A. Ver, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, who shared insights into the Philippines-UAE relations and the upcoming 50 Years Bilateral Ties Celebration. Consul General-designate Hon. Marford Angeles of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates shed light on the meaning of the official logo designed by Architect Edcel Cabalan, the same artist who designed the 126^th Philippine Independence Day 2024 logo for FilSoc.

Representatives from the Community Development Authority Dubai, Mr. Saeed Majid Al Muhairi, the Director of Licensing, and Mr. Mohammed Moosa Almheiri, the Director of Monitoring and Inspection joined the meeting. Mr. Almheiri gave his message of support to the Filipino Social Club and encouraged the attendees to believe and take part in the club’s initiatives.

During the event, Filipino organizations that applied for group accreditation under FilSoc were presented before the audience. These groups were the Filipino Yachtsmen Association, National Organization of Professional Teachers Incorporated-Filipino International Teachers Society (NOPTI-FITS), Deira Cyclist Community, Filipino Mountaineers Federation – UAE, CIASI UAE 61892, UAE MTB – Jumeirah Bikers, Filipino Kasambahay Club, Dubai Filipino Bowling Club, Filipino Dance Club Dubai, Pinoy Futbol Club, and Alpha Kappa Rho – UAE. FilSoc has also introduced the FilSoc People of Determination Club comprised mainly of members from the Filipino Deaf Community.

President Ericson Reyes presented the upcoming exciting activities for the 126^th Philippine Independence Day 2024 Celebration which will be held on the 8^th of June 2024 at the World Trade Center, Dubai. He also urged the various groups to take part and collaborate for the well-anticipated commemorative event.

For the last agenda, Ms. Cecilia Leoparte provided insights into the upcoming events and activities planned by the organization to engage and empower the Filipino community.

The meeting also featured special guests such as researchers Dr. Mina Roces of the University of New South Wales and Dr. Anne Bartlett from the Emirates University, UAE, who delivered a special message, emphasizing the pivotal role of community leaders in driving positive change and advocating for Filipino interests and their project on the Filipino diaspora in the UAE.

The distinguished speakers at the forum were Ms. Sugar Espadera Lumingkit, a multi awarded public speaker, and Human Resource professional; Ms. Mariben Eustaquio, an experienced business consultant having supported over 3,500 companies; and Ms. Thelma Vargas, multi-millionaire creator and the Dubai Chairwoman of i-fern, a Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) company, shared their journeys and insights into entrepreneurship, providing valuable guidance to the attendees.

10th December 2021 (Dubai, UAE) — The Filipino Social Club, in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Philippine Expo 2020 Dubai Team headed by Asec. Rosvi Gaetos, held an on-the-spot painting contest for the youth at the Philippines pavilion Bangkota today. The budding artists were allowed to showcase their talents and win prizes in this inaugural event by the club.

Interpreting the theme “UAE at 50: Bringing the World Together.” Thirty (30) students ages 10 to 21 from Dubai-based Filipino private schools such as the Far Eastern Private School (FEPS), Al Alfiah Private School (AAPS), the New Filipino Private School (NFPS), and Adamson University joined in the event. The jury for the competition was composed of artists, graphic designers, and a club officer – Ryan Murao, a freelance artist and the jury chairman; Olympia Pineda, auditor of the Filipino Social Club; Donell Gumiran, a multi-awardee photographer and graphic designer; and graphic artists Emily Acuin and Catherine Caylan.

The contestants were allowed two (2) hours to complete their masterpieces using the medium of their choice. The entries were judged according to the criteria: Execution (technical expertise, fluidity of strokes and confidence) 30%, Message (interpretation of the theme) 30%, and Visual Impact with 40%, with a total of 100%. The contest opened two (2) categories according to age bracket: Category 1 for ages 10 to 15 and Category 2 for ages 16 to 21.

“We are elated and very proud to see our young artists making beautiful and meaningful artworks. This event was created to promote and celebrate the artistry of the Filipino youth,” said Ericson P. Reyes, the Filipino Social Club president.

Ms. Gilda Dela Cruz, a representative PH pavilion Bangkota graced the event and joined the awarding ceremony. The following were the winners for Category 1: Margarette Dorado (AAPS) in 3rd place; 2nd place was Maria Kirsten Claire Visaya (NFPS), and 1st placer was Neille Grace Ramos (NFPS). The Category 2 winners were: Pete Raven R. Ramirez for 3rd place (FEPS- Branch 1); 2nd place went to Josh Andrie Zapanta (FEPS – Main), and the 1st place was Anthonne Marzyle P. Barloa (AAPS).  Two (2) special awardees were picked by the jurors namely, Cid Tamerlane A. Ormilla of Far Eastern Private School – Branch 1 (Category 1) and Myckhaella Cassandra Sibbaluca from Al Alfiah Private School (Category 2). The winners took home a trophy, cash prize, and winner’s certificates. All participants were given certificates of participation and gift packs courtesy of the Philippine pavilion Bangkota.

President Reyes also said that the winners for the recently concluded event will compete with other nationalities for another art competition in February 2022.

Last 17 November 2021, Secretary Locsin and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, had bilateral talks during their meeting at the UAE Pavilion of the World Expo 2020 Dubai. According to Amb. Quintana, this renewed connection between the two nations, which coincides with the 47th anniversary of PH-UAE diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the UAE, is a testament to their goodwill and friendship.

Additionally, Pres. Reyes told the Foreign Affairs secretary about FilSoc being a licensed club by the Community Development Authority (CDA) of the Dubai government and its goal to be an overall organization for all Filipinos residing in the UAE.
